We have very large prickly weeds in our flower beds. They are growing in between bushes. How can we rid the beds of these weeds. This is the second year that they have come up in the beds. I have pulled them out by hand but would like to permanently get rid of them.

Sounds like thistle and these perennial weeds are very difficult to eradicate. While the tops die down in the winter, the roots remain alive and resprout each spring. Digging them out, roots and all is the best approach. Once you've done that you can cover over the bare earth between the shrubs with a thick mulch to help exclude light which will keep any seeds from germinating. Best wishes with your flower bed.
