| One month after planting my hosta it is wilting and turning brown. The same thing happened last year. Most of the plants came back this spring but not all. How can I stop this and what is it? |
| Hostas grow best in shade, in well draining but moist soil. If your plant is wilting it may be getting too much sun or the roots are water stressed. Since this is an ongoing problem, I suspect your soil is not draining well enough and some root rot is active. I'd dig the plant, amend the soil with organic matter such as compost to loosen it, help it drain quickly yet hold just the right amount of moisture, and then replant the hosta. As long as you water deeply twice a week, the plant should thrive. Good luck with your garden! |
