The Q&A Archives: Roundup

Question: I have weeds in my flower garden, if I spray the weeds will the roundup kill my flowers??

Answer: I'm glad you asked! Round Up is a vegetation killer so anything it touches can be damaged or even killed. The safest thing to do around your flowers is to hand pull the weeds, roots and all, and then use a pre-emergent herbicide such as Preen to keep new weed seeds from sprouting. For more long term weed control you might consider using cardboard, folded newspapers or weed barrier fabric between the plants in the bed and covering over with a few inches of organic mulch (to hide the weed barrier). Best wishes with your flower be!
