How long you need to wait depends upon what product you use to kill the existing weeds. The label will give you information about the waiting period. If you want to kill all the vegetation and start all over, you can use glyphosate (Round Up). This product will kill everything, including the roots, but it biodegrades within about 10 days and you can overseed your lawn in about 2 weeks. Since fall is an excellent time to reseed, you'll want to start your project soon.
