The Q&A Archives: Planting grass

Question: I have large pecan trees in my yard and would like to fill in bare spots with grass What kind of seed is best and what time of year do I plant I live in Georgia I believe my zone is 8. Any advice would be great. Thanks

Answer: Fall is the best time to reseed or overseed your lawn. That's when the grass can establish a good root system without being stressed by the hot weather. You can simply rake the bare or dead areas and broadcast bermuda seed or a mixture of bermuda and kentucky bluegrass (or whatever grass seed mixtures are locally available). Best wishes with your lawn!
