The Q&A Archives: Growing Plants Under Lights

Question: I would like to know more about growing under lights. What type of light does one use and how far should it be from the seedlings?

Answer: Use only fluorescent lights -- regular "cool white" are fine and less expensive than "grow lights". Incandescent light bulbs get too hot and will burn plants. For the best results, keep lights just an inch or two above the tops of the growing plants.
