If the grasses die out in the summer months, they are probably cool season grasses. They will green up as the weather cools, but your warm season grasses will begin to go dormant so you may always have some green and some brown lawn. Since herbicides cannot distinguish between good grass and bad grass, you may need to dig these grassy weeds out of your lawn. If you put your turf on a regular watering, mowing and fertilizing schedule it should grow lush and thick enough to crowd out newly emerging weeds. Best wishes with your lawn!
