I'm not sure what your real address is! These posts go to the email address you indicate on the form when you submit your question so I hope this is the proper address! You can prune your roses down after the first frost of the season and then protect them by setting chicken wire cylinders over the plants and filling in around the branches with shredded leaves, pine boughs, etc. to help protect them from cold weather. In the spring remove the wire cylinders and protective mulch and prune your roses by selecting the healthiest 3-5 canes and removing all the rest. Cut the reserved canes down to 18-24 inches. New growth will emerge from these canes. After a flower is spent prune it off along with several inches of stem. I cut mine down to a 5-leaflet leaf. This is where new flowering stems will emerge. Best wishes with your roses! |
