| There are two types of plants commonly called hibiscus. One is tropical in nature (has glossy leaves) and will not tolerate freezing temperatures. These plants should be taken indoors in the fall and grown as a houseplant during the winter months, then taken back outdoors when the weather warms in late spring. The hardy hibiscus (sometimes called rose of sharon) can spend all winter outdoors. The tops of the plants will freeze down to soil level but the roots will be fine and will resprout new stems in the spring. Hope this answers your question. |
