| Some gardeners prune off the spent flowers (down to a set of leaves) and others leave them on the plant because they add interest to the winter garden. You can prune them off if you like. Some hydrangeas bloom all summer long (Endless Summer, for instance) and others produce flowers only in mid-summer. I don't know which type you are growing so I can't give you specfics, but in general, prune your hydrangeas in the early spring and you'll have lots of new growth and (hopefully) lots of flowers.
