| To reduce stress, I'd wait until mid- to late-September, when the weather cools down a bit before planting. Lemon trees will adapt to any garden soil, as long as it drains well. Dig a hole slightly wider but the same depth as the nursery pot. Lay the tree on its side and slide it out of the nursery pot, set it in the planting hole and backfill with garden soil. Tamp the soil down and then water your tree well to help settle the soil. Water deeply once or twice a week during the summer months. It will take your tree most of the fall and winter to become established so don't expect lots of new growth until next spring. Once the roots are established your tree should flower and develop new leaves. Enjoy your new tree! |
