| I bought a cherry tree this spring. I noticed that right in the middle of where it branches off into a Y the is clear hard sap. Now one side of that Y all the leaves have dried up. Is my tree dying? |
| The sap indicates a wound of some kind, and I'm especially suspicious that the leaves are drying up. There is a disease called bacterial wilt that is common on cherry trees. Oozing sap and dying leaves are classic symptoms of this disease. Sometimes you can control the problem by spraying in the spring just as the leaf buds begin to swell. You may want to check with your cooperative extension office for publications on this cherry tree problem.
