The Q&A Archives: rose tree

Question: I received a rose tree for Mothers day. It is doing good but I do not know how to perpare it for winter. We live in north=east Ohio. Can you help me?

Answer: You'll want to protect the graft, where the rose meets the long stem or trunk on your tree rose. You can wrap insulating material around the graft in late November or you can use the "tip" method of protecting your tree rose. Here's how: Dig under the plant to loosen the roots on one side, but do not completely break all root connections. Carefully lower the plants to the ground and cover with soil. Ad a thick layer of mulch. Remove the soil in spring after the last hard frost and set the plants upright. Best wishes with your rose.
