my peace lily leaves are turning yellow what is causing that to happen and what can i do to stop it?

Peace lily may turn yellow if allowed to dry out, or it may yellow if overwatered, so the secret is to keep the soil evenly moist yet not sopping wet. Try, too, for a humid atmosphere; dry air can also cause some yellowing or browning. Finally, direct sun can cause yellowing if it is too strong, so try for bright but indirect light.
