| I have a japanese maple which appears to have a white fungus growing on 1 of its branches. I am concerned this will kill the branch & possibly the entire plant. Can you advise of the cause & a cure/prevention of this problem. Thanks Mike from NJ |
| I hope it is a superficial fungal growth rather than the fruiting bodies of a wood rot fungus. There is no treatment for a wood rot fungus. Try peeling or scraping the fungus off the branch. If it is soft, it may be a wood rot fungus. If it can be peeled off and the bark beneath it looks okay, it could simply be a lichen. This moss-like growth is common in areas with lots of summer rainfall. I've got my fingers crossed! |
