The Q&A Archives: Southern Magnolia

Question: I want to plant a Southern Magnolia Tree in My front yard. It will get full sun for most of the day. Could you tell me it this particular tree will work in this zone? Any information you could give would be greatly appreciated.

Answer: A better choice for you is the Kobus Magnolia, which is hardy to zone 4. Kobus is a deciduous tree (Southern Magnolia's are evergreen), but has the same deep green, glossy leaves, and fragrant white flowers of the Southern Magnolia.
