| I wanted to grow azolla inside. I used a low profile tub and filled it with aged horse manure. Heating coil (~75F). 45 watt LED lighting at 3 ft above water surface. On continually. I twice bought azolla that had trace amounts of duck weed. The duck weed thrived! The azolla suffered. Turned redish. What am I doing wrong? |
| Azolla is related to duckweed so I'm not surprised some arrived with your azolla. Sounds as though you need to adjust your lighting. You can keep the light on for 12-14 hours but should turn it off at night. Plants need to rest and if you keep the light on 24 hours a day you'll force growth instead of allowing the plant to rest and recover from the day's growing. Try putting the light on a timer. I think you'll see an improvement in your azolla. |
