I have many bare spots in my yard. The reason is I have a lot of trees. When should I sow seed and what should I use? Should I consider having it done commicaly? Maybe that stuff the road dept. uses along the road side.

Turfgrasses have a hard time growing in the shade, but the most shade tolerant are fescues. You can seed the areas yourself but plan on overseeding every 2-3 years to keep the turf green. Best wishes with your lawn.
