Help!! The blackbirds are in my corn. I have hung squares of foil and old CD-Roms in my corn but nothing seems to scare off the blackbirds who continue to chomp away. I am in town so cannot use my 12 ga shotgun. My cat is too old to hunt. The birds are tenacious!!Any ideas??

I know just how annoying that can be! Have you tried cutting the tassels off the plants? That's usually where they first land and it might confuse them enough to keep them from raiding the corn. If that doesn't work you may have to resort to bird netting which is generally used on fruit trees, but should be a good deterrent if draped over your corn. If you can, drive some stakes into the ground a foot or so away from the stalks and attach the bird netting to the stakes and up over the corn plants to stakes on the other side. This will keep the netting from touching the ears so the birds can't peck through and get to the corn. Hope this works!
