The Q&A Archives: azales

Question: when do you cut back?

Answer: Azaleas spend the summer months developing flower buds for next spring's floral display so they should be pruned in the late spring, after they have finished flowering. If you prune now you will lose next year's flowers. Wait until they have finished flowering next season and then prune them back.
