The Q&A Archives: Spots of very dense grass

Question: Hello, would you please tell me, what can be reason of about half yard big spots of very dense grass (Bluegrass) in our otherwise very nice lawn? We use herbicides and fertilizer. It seems to be same grass what we have allover our yard. How can we fix it? Thank you for answer. Hana

Answer: If it is the same type grass that you are already growing but those areas are outgrowing the rest of the lawn, I'd guess there's excessive nitrogen in those spots, quite possibly the result of dog urine. I can't really tell without doing a soil test, and a soil test may be the only way for you to determine just what the cause of the overly ambitious turfgrass might be. Wish I had more thoughts to share.
