This is probably a stupid question, but are tomatoes annuals or perenials, or does it depend on the variety? What about summer squash? |
No question is stupid! Believe it or not, tomatoes can be perennial plants in warm winter areas such as southern California and Hawaii. In your Pacific Northwest region tomatoes are considered annuals - unless you have a heated greenhouse or a very protected porch or deck where cold temperatures cannot penetrate, but winter sunshine can. Summer squash are annual plants. Once they set fruit and the weather begins to cool down the plants will die. Best wishes with your garden! |
