The Q&A Archives: Overseeding lawn

Question: Hi live in CT...when is best time to over seed and how (key steps) thanks

Answer: You can overseed your lawn now or you can wait until the weather warms in the spring. Following the recommended seeding rate as listed on the seed package, spread 1/4 of the seed over the entire lawn area. Then repeat, each time using 1/4 of the seed. Each time you distribute a load of seed, push the spreader in a different direction, to encourage even dispersal. Rake lightly, so as to cover the seed with a thin layer of soil, or spread a thin layer of compost over the lawn and then water well. This will help push the seeds down to soil level. Good luck with your lawn!
