Plants in containers can be exposed to more cold than the same plants in the ground and if the roots freeze, they may not come back next year. Try insulating the pots by either wrapping them with insulation or burlap and grouping them together in a protected place, or sinking the pots into the ground near the foundation of your home. The soil will provide protection and you can unearth the pots next spring. Good luck with your perennials!
