If your garden contains spent vegetable plants or spent annuals you can remove the plant debris and cover over the top with a few inches of organic matter such as compost or shredded leaves. This organic mulch will help suppress weeds. When you're ready to plant you can dig the organic matter into the soil and plant your seeds or your transplants. Hope this answers your question!
