Cherry Leaf Spot is a fungus that primarily affects leaves but can also attack twigs and stems. Look for dark colored spots on the leaves, leaf yellowing, premature dropping of leaves and white spots on leaves in wet weather. Cherry leaf spot is more prevalent in humid areas. This fungus shouldn't kill your tree but it can defoliate it. Be sure to rake up and remove all the fallen leaves. To protect your tree from fungal diseases you can spray with a copper based garden fungicide. Be sure to apply according to label directions. Timing is important for prevention of fungal diseases so spray in the spring as often as recommended on the label.
