I am growing one in the Phoenix area and it's doing just fine. It can take the heat but not the hot afternoon summer sunshine. Plant yours in an area with morning sun and afternoon shade, or plant it in a large container that you can move during the summer months. It if gets too much shade the trunk will grow tall and the leaves will be sparse. It won't branch out well and as a result you won't get flowers. But in morning sun the leaves will be bunched at the top of the plant and stem growth will be less, but it will branch out and flower. Mine began branching after its third year so I expect I will see some flowers next year. Enjoy your plumeria.
