| Your USDA zone is 7, with a minimum winter temperature of 0 to 10F. You may actually find it more useful to use the zones as assigned by Sunset Western Garden Book. Microclimates can vary greatly based on elevation...specifically location in relationship to mountain ranges, etc. Many western gardeners (because elevation becomes more and more of a factor as you move westward) use Sunset zones--described in detail in the Sunset Western Garden Book. Their system of determining zones is based on lots of factors--not just minimum temperatures--and some feel it is more useful in choosing plants that will thrive in your region. The book is easy to find in garden centers and in libraries. |
