Caterpillars (the larvae of moths and butterflies) are one of the main pests that chew holes in the leaves of broccoli and other garden plants. Moths and butterflies have siphoning mouthparts and cannot chew holes.

The safest, most effective caterpiller control product is one containing B.t., a natural caterpillar toxin. It won't harm pets or most other insects. Several brands of B.t. are on the market so ask your local nursery which they carry. Apply every 5 to 7 days for about 3 applications.
