I have a yellow Apple tree about 3 years old. I noticed that the bottom of the trunk is starting to spit. I can see the inside of the trunk. Can you tell me what to do with it?

Splitting can be caused by sunburn so the best way to avoid the problem is to paint the trunk of your apple tree with white latex paint. I expect the split in your tree will heal over on its own. If you don't want to paint the trunk, invest in one of the plastic guards sold in garden centers. Good luck with your tree!
