Answer: Sounds like your seedlings could have become food for insects, may have dehydrated if they are planted in hot sunshine, or keeled over from a fungal disease. I'd start the seeds in little trays or pots somewhere safe from ground dwelling insect pests. Once they have developed two or three leaves you can transplant them into the garden.
