I purchased onion sets from your company, planted them, watered them, and they grew very well. That is to say, the top part of the onion grew well. The stems have now died and the onions are not much bigger than when I planted them Please help me for next year!

P.S. when do you plant Garlic?

I'm sorry to hear the onion sets didn't perform well. When did you plant them? Onion sets won't form bulbs if planted mid-June or later (in your area). Also, there may be some kind of nutrient imbalance that favored the tops in expense of the bulbs. Your county extension office (ph# 215/345-3283) can help you out with soil testing if you wish.

Just like for tulip and daffodil bulbs, plant garlic after Columbus Day and before the ground freezes. Best of luck!
