I live in Colorado and have clay soil, how do I prepare the soil to plant lavender |
Heavy, wet clay is a disaster for lavender. And since lavender prefers what is called ?lean? soil, use bark compost, which should be coarse, mostly to break up clay and create drainage. Fertile, rich soil, the kind that vegetables crave, is not recommended. Lavender is better off with gravel or small rocks mixed into the soil, or some bark chips such as orchid potting soil to ensure good drainage. |
