For the last few weeks I have been going on a nightly slug hunt with my salt shaker. I only get the ones I see on my sidewalks. My question is if I sprinkle a little salt around the base of my veggies will it harm them? It seems like a natural and inexpensive control method.

Eventually the salt will build up and could harm your plants. You can make slug traps (up-end a terra cotta or clay pot, use a small stone to lift one side. Slugs will crawl in overnight and you can empty the trap each morning) or you can use an iron based slug control product such as Sluggo. It's effective and harmless to wildlife, pets and people. Best wishes with your slug control!
