The Q&A Archives: Tree Ring

Question: My husband and I did the DIY tree ring project around our maple tree. People keep asking me dry rot and if it will kill the tree. Is that something I should worry about? It never occured to me.

Answer: I'm not sure which project you did but the general rule of thumb is to avoid piling soil up around the base of a tree. Soil can retain water which can rot the bark. Try not to keep the soil near the tree too wet and the tree bark should be fine.
