The Q&A Archives: What to do

Question: Hi, I have a plant that was given to me, dont kmow the name, it has medium size green leaves, it also has white balls that looks like fungus and some of the leaves are turning brown, its in a container. Also, I have some ponytail palms and another palm, why do the tips turn brow? and last, my apt is dark, but I love live plants, an want to put some in my home what can I do?

Answer: The white puffy things are probably mealybugs and you can control them by dabbing with a Q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol. This will kill them and in a few days you can peel them off with a fingernail. Palm fronds turn brown on the tips if the air is too dry or if they are overwatered. Try misting them daily and watering only when the top of the soil begins to dry out. Best wishes with your plants!
