I have several nests of ground bees (yellowjackets I think) in my yard. What is the best way to get rid of them?

You can effectively kill the ground nesting bees and wasps in the nests by taking a glass bowl and inverting it over the entrance tothe nest. Do this at night, when all the wasps are at home. In the morning, as they try to leave the nest, they will be trapped by the bowl. Wasps are not smart enough to dig another exit, so they won't be able to get out. If you leave the bowl over the entrance for a week to 10 days, the colony will starve and the wasps will die. After you're sure there's no activity in the nest, remove the bowl and cover the entrance with soil.
