I live is Southern Calif.; during the summer the heat can reach 100 degrees plus - would I be able to have an apple tree survive here? If so, can you recommend the type of apple tree that would be best for my planting zone? Thank you for your time.

Gala is considered self-pollinating but as with all apples, a second tree will ensure a heavier fruit set. You will get apples from your Gala apple tree if it is the only one in your landscape. If you decide to plant a second tree Red Fuji or Red Spur are good choices for cross pollination.
