I HAVE A RAISED BED GARDEN,B'HAM,AL-ZONE 8. WE HAVE HAD VERY HOT, HUMID DAYS MIXED W/ HEAVY RAINS. WE GOT PESTS & SNAILS WHICH WE SPRAYED FOR, AND NOW MUSHROOMS. HOW DO I PREPARE THE SOIL FOR NEXT YEAR? |
I'd knock down the mushrooms and rake them out of the garden bed. They are sprouting because the wet weather is keeping things too wet and there's some organic matter that's helping them to grow. I would remove all the vegetation in the bed and cover over the top with 3-4 inches of compost or aged manure. If you simply leave it spread out on the garden bed it will help suppress weeds over the winter months. In the spring, dig it in to a depth of 8-10 inches. The organic matter will help loosen the soil so it drains well. Good luck with your garden. |
