| On both sides of my front entrance, I had two evergreens about 6 feet tall that were almost completely destroyed by hungry deer. I recently chopped them down in an attempt to replace them with two evergreens that are deer resistant. I live in upstate NY (zone 6). Any suggestions? Also, do I need to completely remove the stumps, or could they just be grinded (I need to replant in the same spot). |
| Some plants are less attractive to deer than others. Here are a few suggestions: Juniper (Juniperus): Andorra Compact; Blue Arrow; Blue Chip; Blue Forest; Blue Point; Blue Star; Calgary Carpet; Daub's Frosted; Gold Lace; Green Columnar; Grey Owl; Hetz Blue; Icee Blue; Japanese Dwarf; Medora; Mint Julep; Prince of Wales; Sea Green; Skyrocket; Spartan; Upright Pompon Hetz Column; and Wichita Blue. Pine (Pinus): Austrian; Dwarf Blue Swiss Stone; Mugho; Scotch Hillside Creeper. Spruce (Picea): Bird's Nest; Black Hills; Blue Wonder Dwarf; Colorado; Dwarf Alberta; Dwarf Blue Globe; Dwarf Norway; Fat Albert; Little Gem; Grafted Siberian; Nana Blue Nest; Norway Acrocona; Weeping Norway. I'd have the stumps of the pines ground. If you don't they may resprout. Good luck with your landscape! |
