I am very excitied and proud to say that I harvested my first broccoli yesterday. However, now all as I have left of the plant is a stump from where I cut the head. I am not sure what, if any thing there is I can do with the "stump" to have it produce another brocolli head. I am not even sure how short I should cut the plant down. Please help! Many thanks.

Congratulations on your successful harvest! This should spur you on to more and more gardening! After you've cut the broccoli from the plant you can leave the stalk growing in the garden. New side-shoots will develop below the cut and you'll get an extra bonus of two or more smaller broccoli 'heads'. These really won't be as large as the first broccoli you harvested, but they'll help you prolong the season and get the very last morsel of your wonderful homegrown broccoli.
