| I planted a dozen cilantro plants grown from good Burpee seed. Although the garden is doing well generally, my cilantro is thin and unsubstantial. It's not nearly as nice as what the supermarket supplies. Any suggestions? |
| Cilantro (Chinese Parsley, Coriander) is a short-lived cooler season annual and really seems to thrive under cool conditions when it can grow quickly. Trimming it back for harvest can help your plants regrow for somewhat more productivity, but spring and fall plantings seem to work best where summers are hot. The leaves are usually at peak size after only about 80 days and the plant will set seed about a month later. For best leaf production you may want to be sure your soil is of at least average fertility and that the plants receive adequate water. Good luck with your fall crop! |
