We live in the city and have a roof deck and garden. We often eat on the deck but are bothered by honey bees and yellow jackets. Is there a natural deterrent for them?

I'm not aware of any deterrents for your pests, and I wouldn't want to kill any honeybees, but you can try to lure yellow jackets to a trap that would serve as their final resting place. Commercial traps are available, or you could make one by filling a can half full of water that contains a squirt of dish soap. Tie a slice of melon or meat to a stick and suspend it over the can. You can attach this trap to the railing of your deck away from your sitting area.
