My melons are not becoming ripe. They are normal size, but just won't get ripe. Fruit has been set on vines for 2 months. Watermelon and Cantelopes. |
Melons can easily take 80 to 90 days or more from planting out to harvest, depending on variety -- the hardest part of growing melons, I think, is patience. They needs lots of warm weather, sunshine, and steady moisture. They are also heavy feeders. Once they reach mature size, watch the stems. Small cracks will appear in the stem where it connects to the fruit. When the stem shrivels enough that you can pick the melon with a little twist, it's ready. Then let the picked melon sit around for a day or two before you cut it open and eat it. Good luck with your melons! |
