I bought some plants from the nursery identified only as "Lavender Breadseed Poppy." I have now harvested the seeds and want to plant some as well as put them on my bread. I would like to know what species they are, so I know when to plant, and whether they are annual or perennial. Can you help? The flower was single-petalled, a light lavender color with dark splotches in the center. Thanks! |
Lavender Breadseed Poppy is Papaver somniferum. They are perennial plants that self-sow. They're not very easy to transplant; the seeds are best sown directly in the garden bed where the plants can remain for several years. You can sow the seeds now, or wait until spring to sow them. |
