I bought two bushes last year. I think they were called Honey Berry. They have lavender flowers somewhat similar to a lilac bush. They have lots of yellow berries about the size of a blueberry. Are the berries edible? I have small children and I'm worried about them eating the fruit. If edible, could they be used to make jams or jellies? |
The botanical name for Honey Berry is Melicoccus bijugatus, also known as Spanish Lime. The plants are native to the Caribbean and widely grown in Florida. The fragrant flowers produce round fruit with a green leathery rind and yellowish, translucent pulp. The fruits are edible and usually eaten fresh. It's possible to make jams or jellies from them. |
