I have had a prayer plant (maranta) for almost two years. At one point, it had gotten large and I repotted it. On the roots, I was surprised to find these "nodules" that looked like little potatoes. I cannot seem to find any information about what they are. Do you know?

Maranta is a member of the arrowroot family. These plants grow from starchy tubers or rhizomes rather than the typical root mass you'll find under most plants. West Indian arrowroot is obtained from these rhizomes (in their native tropical regions).
