Helipterum, the Everlasting or Strawflower, come originally from Australia. They should be planted in spring after the soil warms, where they'll grow and bloom all summer. To harvest the flowers, wait until they're completely open and then cut from the plant, taking the entire stem. Hang upside down in a well-ventilated area until they're thoroughly dry. They will keep for several years.
