When can I prune a gardenia bush that's growing too tall for the front of the house?

You can keep your shrub looking good by pinching out the growing tips throughout the spring and summer. For more radical pruning, thin it by taking some of the branches all the way down to the ground, and removing the tops of the taller branches. Prune now, or wait until early next spring just before the new growth spurt.
