I have a Fuschia plant and I'm not sure which buds are new and which buds are spent. Is there a way to tell and should they be removed for maximum blooming?

It's a good idea to remove the spent flowers regularly because it keeps the plant looking tidy and directs its energy to making more flowers rather than setting seed. The best way to learn how to tell the old and new apart is to select a particular flower and watch it from day to day as it fades and eventually loses its petals. Then you will know for sure what the actual new buds look like and what the spent flowers (developing seed pods) look like. Another way to figure it out is to select two or more "different" looking "buds" and cut them open. Enjoy your fuschia!
